Easter Reflections

Today was a great day! While Christmas is a special time, it has been so commercialized that it is very difficult to totally cut through all of the hype and focus solely on what the holiday represents. Easter however is much different, at least for me. Growing up my family always celebrated Easter for what it was, a celebration of the resurrection of Christ. We didn't do Easter egg hunts and Easter baskets were not important. Please don't misunderstand me, there is nothing inherently wrong with those things, but I believe all too often they can overshadow the real importance of the holiday.

With each year that passes Easter becomes even more significant for me. As I grow older my appreciation for what God has done for me through his death and resurrection only grows. While my appreciation grows my comprehension of His grace does not. It is so far from my finite human understanding that a holy God would become flesh and die in my place.

We sang a song this morning that has become one of my favorites. It is entitled "Before The Throne of God Above," and there is a line in it that goes like this; "“Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free. For God the just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me, To look on Him and pardon me." Imagine that! To be clothed in the righteousness of God, to have His righteousness, His holiness credited to me is beyond comprehension.

I praise and thank God for His wonderful mercy this Easter and I pray that you would pause on this day and do the same. God bless.
