Cleaning the Lens of Life

As some of you know, yesterday my brother in law, Mark, fell 30 feet from the top of a feed storage bin on his farm. His injuries were serious including a fracture to the spine and extensive facial injuries. He has been in the trauma unit in Christiana, DE since the incident.

This morning he was alert and talking to my sister. He told her that as he fell he said to himself “This is it. I’m gone.” Thank God that he had other plans. This whole incident has really made me aware of how fragile life is.

Sunday night he was at Bible Study and the next morning he was being rushed to the hospital. The Scripture that has really been on my mind the past two days has been Proverbs 27:1 which says “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”None of us knows what awaits us when we awake on a given day.

When we get out of bed in the morning there is no guarantee we will lay back down in it that night. Because of this uncertainty of our life we must treat it as the gift from God that it truly is. Live it in His honor and hold dear the relationships he has given us.

In all of this I thank God for two things; first that he spared Mark, and second that he has used this incident to remove the “film” of the world that has accumulated over my eyes and blurred my vision.

God Bless,
Pastor Duane
